Zini Tang is a Chinese artist residency located in Guangzhou within a vast 90-hectare protected natural area. In this tropical setting, work is underway to renovate a former sugar mill. The juxtaposition of these remnants of heavy industry with the jungle, which reclaims the land as soon as space becomes available, left a deep impression on me and convinced me to explore this line of research even further.

This residency allowed me to exhibit my work at the Guangzhou Triennial, at the Guangdong Museum of Art, curated by Victoria Zhong.

Presented for the first time in China, my work was confronted, during this triennial, with Asian culture’s perception of abstraction. Alongside dozens of artists already established in China, this culture’s perspective on my work was of great importance to me, as Chinese culture places a paramount emphasis on nature.
