Biography

Born in 1990, Maxence Doré is a French artist whose pictorial practice lies at the intersection of landscape, abstraction, and perceptual experience. His work explores notions of time, trace, and transformation through painting that is at once physical, intuitive, and structured.

His approach has its origins in graffiti, which he developed in peripheral, non-institutional spaces. This initial experience had a lasting impact on his relationship with gesture, speed, physical engagement, and the materiality of painting, elements that remain at the heart of his work.

He then pursued training in the field of art and space. After studying landscape architecture, he obtained a BTS (advanced vocational training certificate) in spatial design, followed by a degree in landscape architecture from the École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles. This dual training has nurtured a unique pictorial approach, in which spatial construction, scale, and stratification interact with an intuitive practice inherited from graffiti.

Maxence Doré has developed a personal technique combining oil paint, aerosol, and chemical processes. Through a process of superimposition, erasure, and transformation of the material, he composes pictorial territories evoking geological landscapes, sensitive cartographies, or changing mental spaces. Painting becomes a place where time is inscribed, where gestures accumulate like strata.

Two artist residencies marked decisive stages in his career: in 2018 at Zinitang Creative Park in Guangzhou (China) and in 2024 at the Pavillon des Indes residence in Courbevoie. These periods of research deepened his reflection on the relationships between form, time, and perception, and affirmed a visual language that oscillates between abstraction and landscape.

His works do not seek to represent reality, but rather to capture its tensions and vibrations. Imperfection, accident, and erasure occupy an essential place in his work, revealing the passage of time and human presence. Painting thus opens up a space for contemplation and projection, giving the viewer the freedom to engage in a slow and sensitive experience.

Maxence Doré's work has been presented in numerous international exhibitions, notably in Guangzhou, London, Seoul, Busan, Brussels, and Paris, in solo and group exhibitions and contemporary art fairs. These presentations testify to a constantly evolving practice and an interest in a variety of formats, from small-scale painting to large-scale immersive compositions.
